I also cringe when very scripted... or... "produced"... things happen on TG (either version). But I know it's what keeps some people watching and laughing.

There's a difference between things that are produced and seemless and things that are produced and someone forgot to close the curtain so you can't see behind it.

Produced and forgot to close the curtain: The hot hatch car chase in the recent TG:UK episode where they blow up the cars. Ok that was over the top. It was intentionally over the top. it was OK. What wasn't OK? The idea that they chased Clarkson around for 14 hours without stopping for fuel while his heavy right foot was on it the whole time.

Produced but OK: The idea that these cheap car challenges always involve cars breaking down and they're always fixed on the side of the road. It is possible that the cars are fixable. It is also possible that the dilapidated cars are on the verge of breaking down. It isn't possible that they're always fixable and always on the verge of breaking down.
